VLT stands for Visible Light Transmitted, and it serves as the standard unit of measure for determining the shade of tint. Essentially, VLT measures the amount of light that passes through the glass. For example, when you see "35% VLT," it means that 35% of the visible light can pass through the glass, while the remaining 65% is blocked by the tint.
